Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma

Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma is a distinguished Nepali economist, scholar and leader in Nepal–China relations. Born on 4 April 1971 in Okhaldhunga, Nepal, he earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Fudan University (2007–2011) and completed his MBA from Shankerdev Campus. He currently serves as Chairman of Fudan University Alumni Nepal and Founder Chairman of the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, playing a pivotal role in strengthening academic, economic and cultural ties between Nepal and China. Dr. Sharma is also the Managing Director of Adventure Outdoor Excursion Pvt. Ltd., leading tourism initiatives across Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. As a Visiting Scholar at Kathmandu University School of Management, he teaches “Doing Business in China,” bridging academic knowledge with practical insight. He serves on the Board of Directors of NEA Engineering Company Limited, Vidhyut Utpadan Company Limited and Betan Karnali Sanchayakarta Hydropower Company. An accomplished researcher and writer, Dr. Sharma has published widely on foreign direct investment, tourism economics, Sino-Nepal trade and geopolitical affairs in national and international journals. His Ph.D. research focused on FDI in post-conflict transitional economies particularly Nepal. He is the recipient of several prestigious honors including the Nepal Bhusan awarded by President Bidya Devi Bhandari and the Silk Road Friendship Award (2021). Fluent in Nepali, English and Mandarin Chinese, Dr. Sharma continues to contribute actively to policy dialogue, academic exchange and regional cooperation initiatives.
